Transfer Partnerships & Articulation Agreements

Helping You Transition Smoothly to Concordia University Chicago
Learn how our special partnerships, articulation pathways, and 3+1 agreements operate in concert with the program-specific rules. Detailed credit policy and transfer rules are housed on the Undergraduate, ADP, and Graduate pages in the CUC Catalog.

This page provides:

  • Information about the Illinois Articulation Initiative
  • Specific college-to-CUC pathways (City Colleges of Chicago, Triton, COD)
  • Details of 3+1 accelerated degree arrangements
  • Planning tips specific to partnership participants
  • Next steps and contact points

  • Concordia University Chicago is a participant in the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), a statewide agreement that allows transfer of the completed Illinois General Education Core Curriculum between participating institutions.
  • Completion of the transferable General Education Core Curriculum at any participating college or university in Illinois assures transferring students that lower-division general education requirements for an associate or bachelor's degree have been satisfied, excluding graduation and mission-related requirements.
  • This agreement is in effect for students entering an associate or baccalaureate degree-granting institution as a first-time freshman in summer 1998 and thereafter. You can learn more about IAI online at itransfer.org.

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC)

  • City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) credits (including IAI GECC coursework) are accepted by CUC and help meet general education and elective needs.
  • Star Scholar Program
    • If you complete the IAI GECC + an AA or AS at a CCC campus and satisfy program-specific requirements, you may be guaranteed admission to CUC (excludes nursing).
    • Qualified students may receive the $2,000 Chicago Star Scholarship, renewable up to two years.
  • Transfer guides
  • CCC transfer students benefit from these structured links, reducing guesswork in course choice and articulation.
  • See the City Colleges of Chicago Partnership Page for more information.

Triton College

  • Triton College credits (including IAI GECC coursework) are accepted by CUC and help meet general education and elective needs.
  • AAT/ATT Educator Pathway

o   Triton’s Associate in Arts in Teaching (AAT / ATT) aligns with CUC’s licensure programs.

o   If you complete the Triton AAT / ATT and meet requirements, foundational education courses transfer into CUC’s teacher licensure track. See the AAT/ATT transfer guide.

  • ADP 3+1 eligibility
    • Triton is a participating partner in CUC’s 3+1 online degree completion (ADP) programs.

College of DuPage (COD)

  • COD credits (including IAI GECC coursework) are accepted by CUC and help meet general education and elective needs.
  • ADP 3+1 eligibility
    • COD is a participating partner in CUC’s 3+1 ADP partner for select online undergraduate Accelerated Degree Programs (ADP).

  • CUC’s 3+1 pathways allow students to complete three years of community college coursework (often at a partner college) and one final year online at CUC.
  • These pathways help transfer students:
    • Maximize how many credits map to your bachelor’s degree
    • Minimize in-residence time at CUC
    • Provide a clear, structured path from community college into a CUC degree

If you are coming from one of these partner colleges, your advisor can help you plot the exact courses to take so that your transition is smooth and efficient.

  • Use Transferology or a similar tool to generate a preliminary, unofficial equivalency map.
  • Meet early with your community college advisor and your CUC transfer counselor to coordinate your course selections.
  • Prioritize IAI-approved general education courses to ensure they transfer cleanly.
  • For majors with licensure or content prerequisites (especially in education, health, science, or technology), carefully check articulation guides to ensure your courses will be accepted.
  • Monitor program-specific recency, grade, or content rules that may supersede generic transfer policy.
  • Save syllabi, course catalogs, and descriptions—they may be needed during evaluation.
  • Maintain good academic standing. Some partnership benefits (like guaranteed admission or scholarships) may require a minimum GPA.
