Dr Sorensen has had a lifelong love for languages and Christian service. After graduating with a teaching degree, he taught at parochial schools in Miami and St Louis. During this period, he completed a master's degree in Spanish. He next pursued seminary studies. After graduating from seminary, he pastored numerous congregations in New York, Texas, and the Chicago area. He served as a parish pastor continuously from 1989 until 2022.


While serving a bilingual parish just a few miles from Concordia, Dr. Sorensen earned his doctorate in New Testament and Early Christianity. He has been a full-time professor at Concordia since 2006, teaching biblical Greek, Scripture and Spanish.
