Neighborhoods shape our lives, who we know, what we access, school quality, safety, belonging, even how long we live. Yet governments, nonprofits, and philanthropies rarely focus on neighborhoods as a strategy for change. This limits efforts to reduce crime, strengthen families, close wealth gaps, and address addiction and despair. These challenges aren’t confined to poor areas; they thrive wherever social poverty exists in rich and poor, urban and rural communities alike.
