Blessing of Greg Wyatt's model of "The Price of Freedom"

  • Veterans Day, 11/11/2026
  • 11:00 to 11:20 a.m. - Blessing, Chapel of our Lord, Kretzmann Hall
  • 11:20 to 11:45 a.m. - Flag Planting, Outdoor Triangle Area

This event is part of the year-long Stall Tall for Freedom series that honors America's 250th anniversary.

Everyone is welcome to attend a traditional chapel service including a blessing of Greg Wyatt’s model of “The Price of Freedom” conducted by Rev. Simeon Raddatz. After chapel, plant a flag in the outdoor triangle area to honor U.S. military service members.

The model of “The Price of Freedom” is a smaller version of the large-scale bronze monument that is permanently on display at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. The sculpture serves as a reminder of God’s provision and protection through both human and angelic means. A spiraling pathway ascends to a globe, upon which a guardian angel holds the body of a dying, unknown soldier. Seven human figures are depicted: five uniformed men, representing the branches of the armed forces that fought in World War II, and two women, representing the WWII nurse corps and the national working women through the image of Rosie the Riveter.

Internationally recognized, artist Greg Wyatt is known for his cast-bronze sculptures in the style of spiritual realism. His art is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Harvard University and the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. His educational background includes a B.A. in art history from Columbia College, studies in classical sculpture at the National Academy of Design, and an M.A. in ceramics with additional doctoral coursework as an Ed.D. candidate in art education from Columbia University, Teachers College.
