Jay Vinson, from Montgomery, Ala., is a candidate for a Doctor of Education in Sports Leadership degree from Concordia University Chicago’s College of Business. Through his work as an instructor, author, motivational speaker, and student, Vinson’s pathway reflects a passion for continued development and a desire to make a meaningful impact on student-athletes and coaches.

"In this season of my life, God has been positioning me to step deeper into my calling of serving student-athletes through purposeful development and transformational leadership.”

"I chose Concordia University Chicago because I wanted a doctoral program grounded in faith and service. The EdD in sports leadership aligns perfectly with my mission to impact athletes through coaching and mental wellness. What encouraged me to stay was the strong sense of community, the Christ-centered foundation, and the way CUC supports students who are actively living out their calling.”

“Being part of a program that values both academic excellence and spiritual development has pushed me to grow as an educator and scholar. Every course, professor, and assignment has reminded me that my purpose goes beyond a degree; it’s about becoming the kind of servant leader who changes lives."

“I am grateful for the way CUC has shaped my journey. All of these experiences have equipped me to serve student-athletes with compassion and purpose."

“Among other things, I serve as an adjunct instructor at the University of West Georgia, where I teach a course titled Athlete Mental Wellness Management. This opportunity is a direct extension of my studies at CUC and the research I’m conducting around mental wellness challenges experienced by high school football coaches—including stress, burnout, work-life balance, and the organizational support available to them.”

“I’m also contributing to the development of a proposed online graduate certificate centered on athlete development, mental wellness, and leadership. Even more, I’m the author of four books, the most recent being ‘More Than A Game: Mental Excellence for Athletes & Leaders.’”

“Everything I am building today is rooted in the values of service, faith, and leadership that Concordia-Chicago has helped strengthen in me. I pray my story encourages future students to pursue their calling boldly and to trust God’s process for their lives.”
