Concordia University Chicago’s University Band will host their annual Christmas concert on Friday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. The free, festive performance will be held in the Chapel of Our Lord on campus.
The University Band will perform songs of the season, including “Overture to a Winter Celebration” by James Stephenson; “A Christmas Intrada” by Alfred Reed; “Christmas on Broadway” by John Higgins; “The Polar Express” by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard; “Greensleeves,” arranged by Alfred Reed; “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson; and a Christmas sing-along. Jean Harrison Bojes will provide commentary at the performance, introducing and describing each selection.
The University Band is composed of approximately 70 musicians, including residents from the greater Chicagoland area and CUC students. Dr. Richard Fischer, distinguished professor of music and the Fred and Jane Wittlinger Endowed Chair for Music Performance, founded the University Band in 1993 and conducts the ensemble. In addition to his work at Concordia-Chicago, he is in demand internationally as a guest conductor, clinician, presenter and adjudicator.
Concordia-Chicago’s campus is located at 7400 Augusta St., River Forest, IL. Free off-street parking is available in the University’s parking structure, south of Division Street on Bonnie Brae Place. Handicapped-accessible parking is available in the visitors’ lot adjacent to the north side of the University parking structure.
