Concordia University Chicago, founded in 1864 as Addison Teachers Seminary, has been “teaching teachers” for more than 156 years. Today’s alumni educators are frontline, essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic as they ready to return to classrooms this fall. To support their efforts and safety, the CUC Alumni Association has launched a Buy One, Give One Face Mask Initiative.
With every purchase, participants will receive a premium, reusable CUC cloth face mask to display school spirit. A second mask will then be given on the purchaser’s behalf to a teacher or staff member at a University partner school. The goal? To distribute 500 masks and help begin the school year on a secure foundation.
The $30 price point also includes a gift to the Gard Student Assistance Fund. Created by the family of CUC’s 11th President, Rev. Dr. Daniel Gard, the fund provides grants for students who experience unexpected economic hardship.
“Our Concordia University Chicago community is committed to loving and serving our neighbor,” says Jeff Hynes, Foundation President & CEO, “I’m proud that our Alumni Association has found a creative way to support both our students and alumni educators, on some small level, through this unique moment in time.”
Face masks went into production in mid-July and are expected to ship to homes the week of August 31 in order to arrive by the traditional first day for Chicago Public Schools.
