"Man of La Mancha" opens April 13 in Oak Park

The Collective at Concordia University Chicago presents “Man of La Mancha,” the 1964 musical with a book by Dale Wasserman, lyrics by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh. The production, directed by Stephanie Stroud, will run April 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m., and April 15 and 22 at 3 p.m. at the Madison Street Theatre, 1010 Madison St., Oak Park, IL.

CUC alumnus among top 10 Illinois Teachers of the Year

James Connelly, an industrial technology teacher at Morton West High School in Berwyn, IL, was selected as one of 10 Illinois Teacher of the Year finalists for 2018 in recognition of his “outstanding contributions to Illinois Education.” The prestigious designation was narrowed down from 234 initial nominations. Connelly graduated from Concordia University Chicago with a Master of Arts in differentiated instruction in December 2017.

Concordia-Chicago to award honorary doctorate to Rev. John T. Pless

Concordia University Chicago will award an honorary Doctor of Letters to Rev. John T. Pless at its spring commencement ceremony. Pless is assistant professor of pastoral ministry and missions at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN (CTSFW), where he also serves as director of field education.

Graduating Senior Art Show opens March 26 at Concordia-Chicago

The Ferguson Art Gallery at Concordia University Chicago presents the Graduating Senior Art Show, a free, public exhibition, from March 26 to May 5. Graduating art majors in the areas of studio art, graphic arts, pre-art therapy and art education will exhibit a wide variety of two- and three-dimensional artwork.

Vice-chair of AARP board to speak on "Disrupting Aging" at Concordia-Chicago

Ronald E. Daly Sr., vice-chair of the national AARP board of directors, will speak at Concordia University Chicago on the topic “Disrupting Aging” on Tuesday, March 27 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The event, hosted by CUC’s Center for Gerontology, is free and open to the public.

CUC Wind Symphony and Kapelle to perform free concerts on campus

The Wind Symphony of Concordia University Chicago will perform their home concert on Friday, March 16 at 8 p.m., following a tour of Arizona, Nevada and Southern California. The Kapelle will perform their home choral concert on Saturday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m., following a tour of Illinois, Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky. The free concerts will take place in the University’s Chapel of Our Lord.

Concordia University Chicago co-hosts fiction-writing workshop with bestselling author

Concordia-Chicago establishes new Center for the Advancement of Lutheran Liberal Arts

Concordia University Chicago has announced the establishment of the Center for the Advancement of Lutheran Liberal Arts (CALLA), which will serve as a national center for research as well as the gathering, sharing and disseminating of resources for those who seek to explore classical education as a means to further the Christian faith. CALLA will work within the University’s College of Innovation and Professional Programs. Appointed as director of the center is Dr. Thomas Korcok, associate professor of theology at CUC.

Concordia-Chicago Student Art Invitational exhibit open through March 18

The Ferguson Art Gallery at Concordia University Chicago presents the Student Invitational and Graduating Art Minors’ Show from Feb. 26 to March 18. The show will feature an array of artwork, chosen by the University’s art faculty, made by students enrolled in art classes over the last year. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

International prize-winning soloists Michaela Paetsch and Susan Merdinger to perform all-Beethoven concert at Concordia-Chicago

Two internationally acclaimed soloists, violinist Michaela Paetsch and pianist Susan Merdinger, join forces to present a concert program featuring four of Beethoven’s Sonatas for Piano and Violin: Nos. 2, 4, 6 and 10. One of the concerts will be held at Concordia University Chicago on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Our Lord, and is presented free of charge.
