Concordia-Chicago alumna named Illinois Outstanding Beginning Teacher

Stephanie Coil, a 2016 graduate of Concordia University Chicago, was recognized as one of eight first-year teachers selected as Illinois Outstanding Beginning Teachers. The awards are presented by the Illinois Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (IACTE). Coil received her award from IACTE board member Dr. Barbara O’Donnell at the organization’s Legislative Reception in Springfield, IL.

Concordia-Chicago to offer free Youth Robotics Camp

Concordia University Chicago’s mathematics and computer science department is again offering free Robotics Camps this summer in partnership with Youth Services, Oak Park and River Forest Townships. Camp session 1 will take place July 31 to August 4, and camp session 2 will take place August 7 to 11. The day camps are open to middle and high school students (ages 11-17) residing in Oak Park or River Forest.

Concordia-Chicago computer programming team places second in Midwest competition

A team of Concordia University Chicago undergraduate students recently placed second in the Midwest at a computer programming competition sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The event, held in Detroit, MI, included teams from IEEE Region 4: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship opens at Concordia-Chicago

Through local, national and global activities, the CIE will nurture entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs to embrace ingenuity and innovation so they can establish thriving businesses.

Graduating art majors exhibit work at Concordia-Chicago Ferguson Gallery

The Ferguson Art Gallery at Concordia University Chicago presents the final exhibit of the academic year, the Graduating Senior Art Show, from April 10 to May 6. The exhibition is free and open to the public and will feature a wide range of two and three-dimensional works of art in a variety of media, including clay, painting, photography, printmaking, jewelry, artists’ books and graphic design.

Dean of students at Concordia-Chicago named to Thrivent Fellows program

Concordia University Chicago announced that Jeff Hynes, dean of students and vice president for student life and intercollegiate athletics, was named to the Thrivent Fellows program. The rigorous 12-month executive fellowship was established to identify, encourage, develop and equip high-capacity leaders for leadership roles in Lutheran colleges and universities.

Concordia University Chicago to host conference and forum on aging

The Center for Gerontology at Concordia-Chicago and Arbor West Neighbors will host “Resilient Aging – Resilient Living: Cultivating Community Good for All Ages,” a day of education, advocacy and action. The event will take place Tuesday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the Concordia University Chicago campus in River Forest.

University Band presents spring concert at Concordia-Chicago

Concordia-Chicago production of "The Fantasticks" opens March 31

The Collective, the theater production company of Concordia University Chicago, presents “The Fantasticks,” the 1960 musical with music written by Harvey Schmidt with lyrics by Tom Jones. Directed by Brian Fruits with musical direction by Dr. Charles Brown, the play will run March 31, April 1, 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and April 2 and 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Madison Street Theatre, 1010 Madison St., Oak Park, IL.

Wind Symphony to perform home concert after Midwest tour

The Wind Symphony of Concordia University Chicago will perform their home concert on Friday, March 17 at 8 p.m., following a tour of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and New York. The free concert will take place in the University’s Chapel of Our Lord.
