Celebrate literacy at Concordia-Chicago on International Literacy Day


Concordia University Chicago and the Chicago Literacy Alliance are proud to co-sponsor a celebration of International Literacy Day on the Concordia-Chicago campus on Sept. 8 from 4-6 p.m. Educators, parents and community members of all ages are invited to celebrate literacy as demonstrated in presentations, performances and interactive experiences.

Concordia-Chicago Kindness 5K: Sharing Life, Love, Light


Concordia University Chicago will host the first-ever Kindness 5K on Sunday, Aug. 27 at Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, IL, to celebrate and continue the life, love and light shared by Katie L. Kloess BA ’09, MA ’11.

State of Illinois approves new early childhood education program at Concordia-Chicago


Concordia University Chicago’s baccalaureate-level degree in early childhood education with an ESL endorsement has been granted approval by the State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board. The approval allows the University to continue preparing students for their bachelor’s degrees and licensure in this growing field. The state of Illinois had set a deadline of Sept. 1, 2018 for all early childhood educator-preparation programs to meet new licensure requirements.

Concordia University Chicago receives an AARP Foundation grant


AARP Foundation has awarded a grant to Concordia University Chicago’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Center for Gerontology to conduct Work for Yourself@50+℠ workshops in Oak Park/River Forest and the Chicagoland area. This national grant initiative is designed to help vulnerable older adults assess opportunities for self-employment, build skills, and connect with resources that will enable them to generate income by working for themselves. Concordia University Chicago is among 32 community-based organizations selected to receive funds to assist older adults.

CUC Patriotic Pops Concert to feature Keanon Kyles as vocal soloist


The University Band of Concordia-Chicago will perform its annual Patriotic Pops Concert on June 24 on the university campus, celebrating community and country with timeless music while honoring service men and women.

SciGirls event at Concordia-Chicago trains educators to engage girls in science


Concordia University Chicago will host SciGirls CONNECT Leader Training on Saturday, Aug. 12. This half-day of training for K-12 and pre-service (formal, community or out-of-school time) science educators provides an opportunity to learn and practice the SciGirls education philosophy through fun, hands-on learning activities. It is part of a broader national outreach effort to help educators adopt new, evidence-based strategies to engage girls in STEM fields.

Concordia-Chicago students and faculty develop Biblical Greek app


A team of Concordia University Chicago students and faculty has developed, programmed and released a smartphone app for students learning New Testament Greek, with plans to develop similar apps for Biblical Hebrew and Biblical Aramaic. Verb parsing, or identifying verb forms, is a basic skill for learning to use the Biblical languages. The project was a cooperative effort between Dr. Andrew Steinmann, distinguished professor of theology and Hebrew, Dr. Victor Govindaswamy, associate professor of computer science, and their students.

"Popular Music for Piano" summer camp offered at Concordia-Chicago


Students entering grades 6 through 12 are invited to participate in the “Popular Music for Piano” summer camp at Concordia University Chicago. Both morning and afternoon half-day sessions are available during the camp, which runs from Aug. 7 to Aug. 11.

Concordia-Chicago alumna named Illinois Outstanding Beginning Teacher


Stephanie Coil, a 2016 graduate of Concordia University Chicago, was recognized as one of eight first-year teachers selected as Illinois Outstanding Beginning Teachers. The awards are presented by the Illinois Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (IACTE). Coil received her award from IACTE board member Dr. Barbara O’Donnell at the organization’s Legislative Reception in Springfield, IL.

Concordia-Chicago to offer free Youth Robotics Camp


Concordia University Chicago’s mathematics and computer science department is again offering free Robotics Camps this summer in partnership with Youth Services, Oak Park and River Forest Townships. Camp session 1 will take place July 31 to August 4, and camp session 2 will take place August 7 to 11. The day camps are open to middle and high school students (ages 11-17) residing in Oak Park or River Forest.
