"The Nerd" opens Nov. 9 at Madison Street Theatre

The Collective at Concordia University Chicago presents “The Nerd,” a play by Larry Shue. Directed by CUC student Katie Rub, the production will run Nov. 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 11 and 18 at 3 p.m. at the Madison Street Theatre, 1010 Madison St., Oak Park, IL.

If a person saves your life, an offer to do absolutely anything for them in return seems reasonable. But, what if “anything” soon makes you regret that promise? Willum’s birthday party gets a jolt of hilarious excitement when Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-soldier who saved Willum’s life, stops by for a visit. When he realizes that Rick is socially inept and will overstay his welcome with a vengeance, Willum must put together an outrageous plan to rid himself of this wacky GI who came to dinner. “The Nerd” is a rollicking farce from the author of the award-winning comedy “The Foreigner.”

Katie Rub is a senior at Concordia University Chicago, majoring in theater with a focus on acting, costume design and directing. She has previously directed “The Public Eye” by Peter Shaffer for The Collective at Concordia-Chicago, and “He Didn’t Like Beyonce” by Allison Wood for the Chicago Dramatists Intern Showcase. This is Rub’s first main stage production with The Collective.

General admission tickets to “The Nerd” are $15, with discounts available for students, seniors and CUC alumni. Purchase tickets online at or with cash at the box office an hour before show time.
