Campus Awareness Events

2011 "Arrive Alive" campaign

Past Events:

  • New Student Orientation
  • As part of Weeks of Welcome, Public Safety annually makes a presentation to all new incoming students. The Presentation includes guests from the River Forest Police and Fire Departments as well as West Suburban Consolidated Dispatch.
  • Sprinkler Trailer: As part of Campus Awareness Day, the River Forest Fire Department (RFFD) brought a sprinkler trailer to campus. A sprinkler trailer is an enclosed space with a sprinkler head. The trailer is connected to a fire hydrant.  During demonstrations, RFFD activated the sprinkler head to show how a sprinkler works.
  • DUI Simulator: DPS, Student Government (VOICE), Residence Life, and the Campus Activities Board (CAB) partnered to bring a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) simulator to campus as part of the Weeks of Welcome. A DUI simulator is a motor vehicle that is connected to computers to simulate the effects of driving after drinking a certain amount of alcohol. Campus Wellness also provided information at the event.
  • R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) Class: Not only to teach strikes and kicks, but also to instill a safety-conscious mindset. The class is offered to the campus community and is taught by instructors from local law enforcement. R.A.D. is endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).
