Undergraduate Student Information

Important Dates and Deadlines

Undergraduate students are individually responsible for meeting all deadlines and requirements prior to participating in a commencement ceremony.

**All Spring 2021 Commencement-Related Events Will be Held Virtually**

Monday, March 1

Intent to Graduate Deadline
To be considered a candidate for program completion, all students, whether participating in a commencement ceremony or not, are required to complete an Intent to Graduate form. An intent prompts a degree audit which, after successful completion of an academic program, will allow the awarding of the degree and verify program completion. Without an intent on file, an academic record will not be audited for completion. Visit the Academics tab of the CUConnect portal to download the form.

Thursday, March 4

Apparel Order Deadline
All apparel must be ordered by March 4 via the campus bookstore or online. Apparel is not required for participation in virtual commencement ceremony.

If you order after the deadline, there will be a late fee of $20 added to your order. If you have questions regarding late orders, please contact Office of the Dean of Students at dos@CUChicago.edu.

See the Apparel tab below for full details about ordering your cap and gown.

Friday, April 16

Graduation Fee Due
As noted in the Concordia University Chicago Undergraduate Catalog, a graduation fee of $150 is assessed to all students who are to receive a degree regardless of participation in the ceremony. This fee will be posted to your student tuition account. It does not include your cap and gown. Please submit your payment to Business Services (Addison 156A).

Outstanding Account Balances Due
All outstanding debt assessed on your tuition account must be paid in full to Business Services in order to participate in the virtual commencement ceremony.

Coursework Audit
Please note that participation in Commencement does not guarantee receipt of your degree. At the close of your final semester, and in the weeks following commencement, the Registrar conducts an audit on all coursework completed to determine if all degree requirements have been met. Degrees and diplomas are then issued upon the successful completion of this audit.

Beginning Monday, April 11

Virtual Format

Students planning to complete their degree program this semester are encouraged to participate in Grad Finale. This is the opportunity for graduating seniors to ensure their academic and financial affairs are in order to successfully graduate

This event brings all areas of campus to one location to allow graduates to:

  • Meet with Business Services to review any outstanding financial commitments.
  • Consult with the Registrar’s Office to flag potential academic concerns.
  • Order your cap and gown from Jostens, our official academic apparel provider. The cap and gown is yours to keep after graduation.
  • Note: Cap and gown senior portraits will NOT be available during the virtual grad finale.

Because the Spring ceremony is virtual, undergraduate students can order academic apparel (caps and gowns) to commemorate the occasion at home. The cost of the apparel is $43.99 plus tax and is separate from the Student Graduation Fee.

Ordering Academic Apparel

We recommend students place their apparel orders during Grad Finale. Students may also order online.
