Ruth Naomi Floyd Jazz Ensemble

Jazz vocalist, composer and music educator Ruth Naomi Floyd presents “Frederick Douglass Jazz Works,” created in honor of Frederick Douglass (1818-1895). In this work, Floyd and her ensemble present jazz comprising her original compositions paired with the actual words from the speeches and writings of this powerful, timeless luminary.

“Frederick Douglass Jazz Works” illuminates the themes of tragedy, grief, despair and the injustice of American slavery through the multi-faceted prism of hope, joy, perseverance and triumph.

Co-hosted by the Free Enterprise Center, CUC Honors Program and the Black Student Union.
