Marmaduke Nathanial Carter: Black Lutheran Pioneer and Church Planter in Chicago

  • Rev. James Huenink

Marmaduke Carter (1991-1961) served as an ambassador for both black and German Lutherans. Carter spoke and preached in German to reach immigrant congregations. His life and work bridged the segregation gap and drew white and black Christians together. Carter's example offers hope for bridging the gap between black and white Christians today.
