Transfer Assistance to St. Joseph’s College Students

Concordia University Chicago Offers Transfer Assistance to St. Joseph’s College Students

The Concordia University Chicago community is saddened by the news that St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN will temporarily suspend operations at the end of the current academic year. All in our community offer prayers for colleagues and students affected by this difficult decision, including SJC alumni, three of whom Concordia-Chicago is privileged to have serving in our Undergraduate Admission and Athletics departments.

We understand that this difficult decision affects students and families alike, as additional options are sought and explored by students to successfully complete their college degree programs. Concordia University Chicago, like St. Joseph’s College, is a Christian university that holds values of faith central to our mission as we form students for a life of service. Concordia-Chicago is a Lutheran university with students from many faith backgrounds, including Roman Catholics who represent 25 percent of our undergraduates. Many academic programs at St. Joseph’s correspond to those at Concordia-Chicago and our faculty and staff stand ready to assist and welcome students from St. Joseph’s College who wish to continue their studies.

Interested students may begin the transfer application process now for the 2017 fall semester, which begins August 21. There is no application fee required. Our transfer-friendly process is coordinated by Scott Smolek, CUC Undergraduate Admission Counselor, and himself a St. Joseph’s College alumnus. Scott is ready to review academic transcripts and provide immediate course assistance. Concordia-Chicago will award each admitted SJC transfer student an institutional merit scholarship of up to $20,000 per year and Financial Aid Office staff will work with each student individually to award additional financial aid and grants for which he/she is eligible.

Please contact Scott Smolek at or 708-209-3103.

Our continued thoughts and prayers are with the St. Joseph’s community. Puma Pride is carried forward by these SJC alumni who proudly serve within our CUC community—Mike Stawski ’06, Head Baseball Coach; Kolin Conner ’13, Head Assistant Baseball Coach; and Scott Smolek ’05, Admission Counselor.

Concordia University Chicago welcomes SJC students and the Puma Pride they carry forward.
