Theater (BA)

Develop your strengths on the stage and behind the scenes, in a comprehensive program that trains you in all aspects of theater production, and with access to Chicago’s world-renowned theater community.

You’ll study entry-level acting, directing and stagecraft, to help you determine an area of focus for your career. Our small classes encourage hands-on learning, and our faculty members foster a collaborative spirit that puts you in a position of influence. 

Our instructors are nationally recognized participants in the professional theater community, both in Chicago and around the world. You will learn from and partner with them, enhancing your education and contributing to our excellent in-house productions.

The Collective

Our in-house theater community, The Collective, gives our students, faculty and friends the chance to take in some of the best of modern American theater, as well as acclaimed interpretations of classic work.

Our vibrant production schedule is dedicated to presenting works that shape your understanding of performance. The program includes:

  • Four main-stage productions a year
  • Spring musicals 
  • New works by nationally recognized playwrights 
  • Student-directed one-act plays
  • Chicago’s “storefront theater” model of performance
