Game Art Degree Overview
Concordia University Chicago offers game art students a dedicated lab equipped with computers that meet current gaming PC performance standards and the latest digital art software used in the industry, including the Adobe Creative Suite, popular game engines, and 3D modeling, sculpting, and texturing software.
As a game art major, you will take courses focused on the tools, methods and mindset required to create compelling illustrations and three-dimensional characters, and collaborate with peers to build interactive virtual scenes and video games. Senior game art majors also show off their creative work in the Annual Senior Art Exhibit in the University’s Ferguson Art Gallery.
Central to Concordia University Chicago’s game art program are a series of courses focused on the creation of digital imagery and 3D models for use in video games and other media. These core digital art courses build on traditional foundations developed in the required studio art courses.
The game art program’s collaborative upper-level courses will provide you with technical skills necessary to design and develop video games utilizing industry standard game engine software. In your senior year, a required course on professional strategies for artists will help you develop your identity as an artist and assemble a polished online portfolio that showcases your skills.
A variety of supplemental electives are available for you to choose from, including Rigging, Computer Science I, Introduction to Film Studies, Topics in the Visual Arts, and Exploration of Music. These courses provide you with the opportunity to explore industry-relevant topics complementary to the focus of the program.
