Visions for the Future

Since October of 2010, the Center for Church Music has been temporarily located in the Klinck Memorial Library (second floor) of  Concordia University Chicago’s campus.

Starting in December of 2014, the University began casting a vision for what could become the Center’s more permanent location.

This striking facility would be located adjacent to the Kretzmann music building and would house the various holdings of the Center including:

  • Schalk American Lutheran Hymnal Collection
  • Original manuscript archives of many important Lutheran composers
  • A Reference books
  • Scholarly writings
  • Church music journals
  • The Center’s own publications
  • Recordings
  • A state-of-the-art compositional studio
  • Online access to the Center’s extensive website and to The Canterbury Dictionary of Hymnology in the UK

The Center will draw people (students and professionals) for the purpose of:

  • Training
  • Gaining inspiration and clarity
  • Scholarship

The facility would also be a place for:

  • Various presentations
  • Forum discussions
  • Interviews

Estimated cost: $1.2 million
