Workshop Basics

Young Actors Workshop

This summer our Young Actors Workshop (designed for children in first through seventh grades) will be mounting a production of Pirates of Penzance, Jr., a version of the actual musical reworked for the younger crowd to perform. Rest assured, your favorite songs and characters will all be there! Your children will learn the elements of mounting an entire stage production as they work as actors and technicians, designing floor plans, painting sets, discussing and creating characters, memorizing lines, learning projection, articulation, etc. as well as practicing cooperation, flexibility, critical thinking, language skills, and the building of confidence and poise. Sessions run Monday - Thursday from June 9-July 25 (please note: there will be no workshops the week of July 4th so families can plan vacations during that time) Public performances will be held either Friday, July 25 or Saturday, July 26, depending on the session in which your child is enrolled. Morning session is from 9am - noon and the afternoon session is from 1-4pm. Registration is limited to 30 children per session. Register Now!

Our Purpose

Our workshop serves a dual purpose; first and foremost, it is a summer theatre camp experience where kids can learn the discipline and craft of theatre. Our second purpose is to provide Concordia's students the opportunity to teach the basic concepts of theatre as well as the enjoyment of the theatrical process. Both purposes are fulfilled through working together on scene work, musical revues, and full scale musical productions. Each experience is designed to give both the student performers and our aspiring teachers a chance to grow in the art, craft and love for the world of the stage.
