Worship Opportunities
"But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him" (John 4:23- NRSV).
Daily worship is the heart and soul of this Christian community. Monday through Friday, from 11:00 to 11:20 a.m. is considered "Sacred Time" -- set apart for a special purpose.
For twenty minutes every member of the university is encouraged to gather in chapel, in the name of Jesus, to be strengthened by his word, hear his gospel promises, and respond in prayer, praise and thanksgiving.
While morning chapel is traditionally based, it features a variety of musical styles. Morning Prayer and Matins are regularly prayed, but an outstanding ensemble, named RÉSONANZ, also leads alternative worship. A quite, meditative prayer service called Taizé is used every few weeks, and liturgical drama and dance are occasionally employed in praise to the Lord.
The backbone to Concordia's worship music is our fifty-two rank Schoknecht organ, brought to life through the exceptional skills of the chapel organist, Dr. Steve Wente.
The sixty-voice chapel choir, Schola Cantorum conducted by Prof. Jonathan Kohrs, sings weekly and on major festivals. Kapelle, the University's
premier choral performance ensemble, performs in chapel on festival occasions; and the Miriam Singers-- a sixteen voice select women's ensemble also contributes.
We are proud of our music department's outstanding contribution to the worship life of Concordia.
Whatever is done in chapel, we strive for excellence to the glory of God, that His gospel would be conveyed clearly and creatively.
The chapel often welcomes guest preachers from nearby Lutheran churches or from within the University community.
The Eucharist (Holy Communion) is celebrated each Wednesday night during the school year, at a 30-minute traditional service (6:30 to 7:00 p.m.).
Student-Led Services
Several student-led prayer services are held during the week, including Matins, Vespers, Compline, and Evening Prayer.
Prayer and Praise-- Concordia's student-led Contemporary worship is held on Sunday Nights.

Sunday Morning Worship
Resurrection Lutheran Church (L.C.M.S.) hosts Sunday morning (10:00 a.m.) worship on campus. Rev. Dr. Gary Bertels, a theology professor at Concordia, conducts the services. A large number of students attend, and the entire campus community is welcome.
There are a number of houses of Christian worship in the River Forest / Oak Park community. Feel free to speak with the Campus Pastor (x3470) to find one that fits your needs.
