Concordia University Chicago to host 14th Annual Community Bank Makin’ Tracks 5K Run/Walk Sept. 17

Aug. 15, 2011—Registration for the 14th Annual Community Bank “Makin’ Tracks” 5K Run/ Walk in River Forest Sept. 17, presented by the Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest, the River Forest Park District, Concordia University Chicago and Fenwick High School.

Net proceeds benefit the West Suburban Special Recreation Association. Proceeds from the walk/run benefit WSSRA in providing recreation services for adults and children with physical impairments, developmental delays, mental disabilities or other disabilities.

Registered with the Chicago Area Runners Association, Makin’ Tracks is a popular event drawing hundreds of walkers and runners from throughout the community and metropolitan area to River Forest each fall.

Start time for the 2011 Makin’ Tracks is at 8 a.m. on Monroe Street, a half-block south of Division. The race route will take runners and walkers on a 3.1-mile course through River Forest’s flat, tree-lined streets before ending on Concordia–Chicago’s Cougar Stadium track. 

Awards will be given in nine age categories at a ceremony following the race. Ribbons will be given to all participants in the Wheelchair Das and Tot Race, beginning at 8:45 a.m. at Cougar Stadium. For a full list of youth activities and more information, visit www.rfparks.com.

Registration is available online through Sept. 15, at the River Forest Park District website at www.rfparks.com or at www.signmeup.com/73852. Mail-in registrations must be sent to the River Forest Park District, 401 Thatcher Ave., River Forest, IL, 60305, and postmarked no later than Sept. 9.

Walk in registration is available at The Depot, 401 Thatcher Ave., (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday) until noon Thursday Sept. 15. Race day registration will be at the west end of Concordia‘s Cougar Stadium from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.

Entry fees for registration before noon Sept. 17 is $25/adults, $20/children ages 7 to17. Race-day registration is $30/adults, $25/7 to17. CARA members receive a $3 discount. Admission is free for all wheelchair athletes, as well as the all-ages Wheelchair Dash and Tot Race for children ages 3 to 6.

Each registrant will receive a T-shirt, goody bag, water and food after the event. Pre-race packet pick-up is at Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest, 7777 W. Lake St., River Forest 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Sept. 13-14; at The Depot, 401 Thatcher Ave., River Forest 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Sept. 15-16, or on Race Day.
