2010-2011 Easy Steps for Returning Traditional Undergraduate Students
to Apply for Financial Assistance
May 2010-2011
General eligibility requirements for financial assistance:
- Must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
1. Complete the 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the U.S. Department of Education at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The U.S. Department of Education will electronically forward your FAFSA results to Concordia University Chicago when you enter our Federal School Code 001666. Applications will be accepted beginning January 1, 2010. The FAFSA priority deadline is March 1st!
- A FAFSA worksheet is available to assist you with your online application and may be obtained at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/before012.htm.
- Student and parent(s) will need the following information for the FAFSA application: Social Security Number, State Driving License Number, 2009 W-2 and Federal Income Tax information, details about bank accounts, net worth dollar amount for investments and businesses, and dollar values for untaxed income.
- If you are selected for verification, additional documents may be required by the Office of Student Financial Planning. As soon as the Office of Student Financial Planning has received your FAFSA results, you will be advised about the status of your application for financial aid, and if additional information will be required by the Office of Student Financial Planning.
- If you estimated your income information on your FAFSA, please be sure to update the information once you complete your income tax return. This will hold your financial aid processing if incomplete.
- Returning students will be required to complete their financial aid file by April 1, 2010

- Must be a high school (or equivalent) graduate eligible for college attendance.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen with a valid Social Security Number.
- Must make Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- Must be registered with the Selective Service (if male).
- Must not be in default on a federal student loan.
1. Complete the Undergraduate Admission Process
- To be eligible for Federal and State financial aid, students must be admitted in a degree seeking program. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will notify the Office of Student Financial Planning when you have completed this process.
2. Complete the 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the U.S. Department of Education at www.fafsa.ed.gov. 2010-2011 - Easy Steps for Graduate Students
to Apply for Financial Assistance

1. Complete the graduate admission process. (New Students Only)
- To be eligible for Federal Stafford loans, students must be admitted to and enrolled in a degree-seeking graduate educational program or approved certificate program. The Office of Graduate Admission will advise the Office of Student Financial Planning when you have completed this process.
- Students who start classes prior to being officially admitted to a degree seeking program are considered guest students. Guest students are not eligible to receive financial aid and must make payment arrangements with Business Services to cover their tuition expenses.
2. Complete the 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). (ALL Students)
- This is an online application submitted to the U.S. Department of Education – www.fafsa.gov. In order for our institution to receive the results, applicants must enter the Federal School Code (001666) for Concordia University Chicago. NOTE: The FAFSA must be completed each academic year.
- If you are selected for verification, you may be required to submit additional documentation to the Office of Student Financial Planning in order to determine financial aid eligibility.
- If you estimated your income information on your FAFSA, please be sure to update the information once you complete your income tax return. This will hold your financial aid processing if incomplete.
3. Complete the Stafford Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Stafford Entrance Counseling
- New CUC borrowers are required to complete the MPN and Entrance Counseling in order to obtain a Stafford loan. Please login to the following websites to complete the two applications listed.

- Once you have met the required three steps listed, our office will certify your loan with Direct Lending for processing
4. Complete the TEACH Grant process.
As a Graduate student you may also be eligible for the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program. It provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. Steps to apply for 2010-11:
- 1. Complete a 2010 – 2011 FAFSA.
- 2. Complete and submit a Concordia TEACH Grant Application.
- 3. Complete Teach Grant Entrance Counseling and sign an Agreement to Serve for 2010 – 2011.

Avoid Delays: In order to assure that your student loans will arrive in a timely manner, the Office of Student Financial Planning strongly encourages students to submit all required documents as soon as possible each academic year. Remember, financial aid can only be offered to students who are admitted to a degree-seeking graduate program. Semesters attended as a guest student cannot be included in calculating your financial aid eligibility. All guest students will be required to make other payment arrangements with Business Services.

Undergraduate Orgnizational Management Degree Program Students
Important Requirements to be Eligible to Apply for Federal and State Financial Aid:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen with a valid Social Security Number
- Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
- Must not be in default on a federal student loan
STEP 1. Complete the Institute of Professional Studies / Adult Degree Program admission process.
- To be eligible for financial assistance, students must be admitted in the degree-seeking Organizational Management Program. The Adult Degree Program Office will advise the Office of Student Financial Planning when you have completed this process.
- Students who have not been admitted into the University are considered guest students. Guest students are not eligible to receive Federal or State financial aid. Please be sure to contact Business Services to make other payment arrangements for any registered course(s).
2. Complete the 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- This is an online application submitted to the U.S. Department of Education – www.fafsa.ed.gov. In order for our institution to receive the results, applicants must enter the Federal School Code (001666) for Concordia University Chicago. NOTE: The FAFSA must be completed each academic year.
- The Department of Education will send you an email once your application has been processed. Please be sure to check the comments tab on your FAFSA application for any discrepancies. If you are selected for verification, you will be required to submit additional documentation to the Office of Student Financial Planning before determining financial aid eligibility.
- If you estimated your income information on your FAFSA, please be sure to update the information once you complete your income tax return. This will hold your financial aid processing if incomplete.
