Telecom Services for Commuters

Commuter students are welcome to utilize one of the many Courtesy Phones on campus. These beige wall phones, marked "Courtesy Phone" in yellow, allow on-campus (four-digit) calling as well as free calling within a 15-mile radius of campus. There is at least one in every public building on campus.

In addition, those wall phones not marked as Courtesy Phones may be used for long distance calling in conjunction with an Authorization Code, which you may apply for here. There is no charge for obtaining the code; calls are billed at the rates detailed in the Rates section of this page.  Commuters who utilize an Authorization Code are responsible for accessing their monthly on-line invoice and paying any charges by the indicated due date. Click here for more information on the billing process.

Commuters may also request an on-campus voice mail box from the Telecom Office.  There is a charge of $20 per semester for this service.  Not connected to a direct inward dial (DID) number, these boxes must be accessed by callers dialing directly into the PhoneMail system at 708-209-3199 (x3199 on campus) and entering the appropriate box number.  To access one's own PhoneMail box, dial 708-209-3198 (x3198 from on campus).  Enter the box number plus "#" and the password and "#" again.  The automated menu will take you through the various options.  Hitting "3" is what allows you to listen to your messages.  Please refer to the Telephone System and Features section of this page for more details.
