Northwest Suburban Progrm
Program Objectives:
This program is directed toward the preparation
of master classroom teachers. The program provides the opportunity
for the teacher to extend preparation in professional education
through course work and to pursue further work in subject
matter areas leading to greater teaching proficiency. This
program will enable the teacher to
- Increase mastery in the skills of teaching
- Achieve a deeper penetration in subjects of professional interest
- Enhance understanding of the learner and the process of education
- Become a resource person for curriculum development
Degree Requirements
Completion of the 33-hour program including the
Master's Capstone Experience which includes a research project
completed in the Practicum course. All courses are 3 semester
hours unless otherwise indicated.

- ED-6062 Learning Theory and Design
- ED-6047 Reading in Content Areas of Middle and Sec. Schools, or
- ED-6085 Studies in Elementary School Reading
- ED-6059 Curriculum Theory and Design
- ED-6082 Computer Applications
- ED-6012 Practicum
A. Research (must be taken early in program -

C. Theory and Practice (9 hours)
D. Departmental Offerings (6 hours)
These hours are to be taken in a department other than those prefixed by ED, EDL, EDU, THY or PSY unless it can be demonstrated that a specific course contributes to the student's overall program, in which case permission of the advisor and graduate dean prior to enrollment is required.
