Coach Kathy Gebhardt

Kathy Gebhardt begins her fifth season as head coach of Concordia's volleyball Cougars.

Gebhardt led the 2006 Cougars to a 21-7 season, third-best in the school's history. The team finished in fourth place in the first season of Northern Athletics Conference play and landed two first-team All-NAC selections, an honorable mention All-NAC selection, and an NAC All-Rookie team member. Gebhardt's squad finished 14th nationally in NCAA Division III with 3.02 blocks per game.

Gebhardt (nee Krohe) graduated Concordia in 1996 after a spectacular three-year career in which she earned two consecutive NIIC Player of the Year honors. She was a member of the 1995 team that compiled a perfect 10-0 conference record en route to Concordia's last NIIC title. Gebhardt continues to hold Concordia's kill record for a match (34), and she is second in career kills with 1188.

Gebhardt has brought many talented volleyball players onto Concordia's campus over the past four years and, last year, she saw the freshmen from her first team of 2003 bring their four-year careers to a conclusion. "Our seniors laid the foundation for us and, in the same way, we have some young players on our roster right now that can be building blocks for the next few years," says Gebhardt. "Building a team is an ongoing process, a continuing cycle, and we want to keep raising the bar and bringing in high quality talent on a consistent basis." Gebhardt goes on to say that, when coaching volleyball, "We try to prepare them to be not just volleyball players but strong young women overall. Shaping their values and morals, strengthening their Christian faith, building strong friendships are all part of creating a positive experience for their four years here at Concordia."

Gebhardt graduated Concordia with a B.A. in elementary education. She earned her M.S. in sports management at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota in May of 2003.
