Dirvelis J. Velasquez, Head Coach/Advisor

Dirvelis J. Velasquez joins the Concordia University Chicago coaching staff this year as the head coach for the Spirit Squad. She is a 2007 graduate of Concordia, earning a B.A. in exercise science with a minor in sociology. Velasquez, a Chicago native, was a four-year member of the Cougars' dance and cheerleading team, serving as the captain during her junior and senior years.

Velasquez says, "I am honored to have been given the opportunity to serve as the Spirit Squad coach. The ladies are a great group of talented and dedicated women. I have no doubt that our upcoming seasons will be successful ones."

Velasquez's experience includes high school cheerleading and ten years of dance. She has coached junior high and high school summer cheer/dance camps and high school varsity dance teams. She has also coached softball for eight years in Chicago's summer recreational leagues after playing prep ball at Mather High School.

Velasquez is looking forward to taking the next step for her career, as she states, "I am thrilled to help bring the Cougars' program to the next level. I know we have the talent to do so."

Velasquez is pursing a Master's degree in athletic training. She currently works for AthletiCo in Oak Park as a rehabilitation aide.
