Board of Champions Seek Hall of Fame Nominations

Concordia’s Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who best exemplify the mission and spirit of Concordia and its Athletics Department. Nominations of former players, coaches, and other individuals are being sought to distinguish those who have brought honor to Concordia.

Nominations for the 2009 Induction Class have closed.
Submissions are due February 15 to be considered for the 2010 Induction class.

2008 Hall of Fame Induction Class

Four newly-recognized athletes joined the 60 previous Hall of Fame inductees at an evening ceremony in their honor on Saturday, November 8. Members of the class of 2008 include:

Kathleen Ann (Sandfort) Gehrs, ’73 Darron Lowe, ’93
A standout softball pitcher and ace of the staff for four years, Kathleen led the team to an undefeated regular season during her senior year and into statewide tournament competition against larger state universities. She has served as a teacher for nearly 30 years at St. Lorenz School in Frankenmuth, Mich.

 

Darron, a four-year starter for the men’s basketball team, is fourth on Concordia’s all-time scoring list with 1,596 points. He was the conference’s Most Valuable Player in 1993, and was named twice to the all-tournament teams at the Concordia Invitational Tournament. Darron is a project manager with Wachovia Securities in St. Louis, Mo.
Tim Platt, ’78 Mary (Holl) Scott, ’80
Tim lettered for four years in football, basketball and baseball. He earned all-conference honors in football and baseball, and is fourth in assists in the Cougar basketball record books. Platt served as an assistant coach for football and basketball following graduation before becoming men’s basketball head coach for three seasons beginning in 1984. He is vice president of investments for UBS Financial Services in Naperville, Ill. Mary lettered in volleyball and basketball for four years each and tennis for one year. She was captain for the volleyball team’s conference champions in 1978 and 1979, and she was a member of the Cougar basketball team that took fourth place at the 1977 Illinois “Small College” state tournament. Mary served as athletic director and coached volleyball and basketball at Concordia University in Irvine, Calif. from 1985 until 1995 and currently is executive vice president and provost at the university.

Concordia's Board of Champions serves as a volunteer team of impact players making a difference today on the future of Cougar athletics. Established in 2000, this group supports and promotes the University’s athletic program to provide the very best atmosphere for student-athletes to excel in the athletic arena.
