Academy of Continuing Professional Education

Welcome to the Academy of Continuing Professional Education

Through its University College, Concordia University has created the Academy of Continuing Professional Education as a part of the ongoing effort to meet the needs of educators seeking professional development activities. Through the Academy, Professional Growth Opportunities (PGOs) are planned and offered to those in our educational community. Experts on staff at Concordia University or other persons recognized in the field will serve as presenters and facilitators of the PGOs.

The Academy offers a variety of educational activities designed to meet district, school, and individual needs. Our goal is to help teachers become even more effective in their classrooms and happier with their own classroom performance.

9:00a-12 noon

Popular culture includes any number of practices including those pertaining to entertainment, sports, mass media, clothing, etc. which are widespread in any given society at any moment in time.  Adolescents often complain that their classes at school are boring and irrelevant to their lives.  Infusing 'pop' culture into one's curriculum can help gain the students' attention.  It can also act as a vehicle for helping the students connect what they are learning to their everyday lives.  In this workshop you will learn how to recognize the many values of incorporating 'pop' culture into your lesson plans in a meaningful and appropriate manner, You will receive specific lesson plans to take home and work with immediately.

(This workshop is for Middle School and High School teachers of English, Social Studies, and Art)
