Student Showcase
Abby McCartney is a student at CUC who recently visited the Salvation Army in Chicago. Here are her thoughts on the visit:
"Our class trip to the Salvation Army broadened my knowledge to include the healing sector; one that is rarely present in common discourse about the corrections system. The learning experience presented another dimension to a seemingly hopeless situation, allowing is to critically analyze it and continue to create positive change."
Shayna Sanders is a criminal justice major and joined a recent visit to the Cook County Jail. Here are her thoughts on the visit:
"This experience allowed me to discard prior assumptions and experience first-hand what really transpires at Cook County Jail. I recommend taking Sociology of Corrections so that you can also gain knowledge about how the prison system operates and its effect on society."

Sociology of Corrections sTATEVILLE pRISON tOUR on 4/3/12. We learned about the day-to-day functions of the prison, prisoner experiences of life behind bars, and women correctional officers' challenges working with male colleagues and managing male prisoners.
