Natural Sciences Department

If you are fascinated by the natural world, there is a vast realm of career opportunities to explore at Concordia University. In addition to specific majors such as biology and chemistry, we also offer a “package” of courses for the student whose professional plans require a broad base of science courses, including those planning to enter medical, nursing, pharmacy, veterinary, or physical therapy graduate programs. Our faculty are experienced scientists and researchers who combine intensive expertise and scientific knowledge, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to providing opportunities for students inside and outside the classroom—taking advantage of all that metro Chicago has to offer.

  1. Concordia’s applied microscopy program allows you to take advantage of our partnership with the Hooke College of Applied Sciences, widely regarded by industry, academia and government institutions as the premier microscopy resource. Hooke specializes in undergraduate and graduate training for scientists, crime lab personnel, researchers, educators and technicians from around the world.
  2. In the broadest sense, biology is the study of life—looked at through molecular, organismal, cellular and global perspectives. Studying biology teaches a person to ask questions, judge evidence and solve problems.
  3. Are you interested in studying medicine, forensics or chemistry? Do you enjoy lab work? Do you want to enter medical school? Are you interested in contributing to meeting civilization's challenges of this century? Concordia’s Chemistry program will prepare you to excel in your future.
  4. Environmental scientists study how humans, industry, production and pollution sources affect nature and the environment. They believe in sustainable living, and help develop ways to eliminate and curb environmental damage; for example, environmental scientists were the first to encourage recycling, the use of solar power, and the development of hybrid automobiles.
  5. The Geography and Environmental Studies program at Concordia University Chicago is a package of courses that may be an option for you. The program is for the student whose academic or professional plans require a broad base of science courses.
  6. Are you interested in using science to help those in need—perhaps by becoming a doctor, nurse, dentist, pharmacist or veterinarian? The Natural Science program at Concordia University Chicago is a package of courses designed for the student whose academic or professional plans require a broad base of science courses.
