Dean's Message
It is no secret that there is a growing shortage of qualified teachers in the United States. In Illinois alone, there were over 2,000 unfilled teaching positions. The Illinois State Board of Education projects the need for 55,000 new teachers between 2001 and 2005.
Every child deserves to have a highly competent and caring teacher. All of Concordia University's education programs are designed to help each person become the strongest educator possible. We are committed to preparing educators who are competent, ethical, and committed to servant leadership.
Our education programs are designed to serve the broad field of education. They include:
- Bachelor programs at the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary levels and in Special Education (LBS 1) and K-12 Music Education
- Post-baccalaureate programs in Special Education and initial teacher certification at the early childhood, elementary, and secondary levels
- Masters programs for initial certification at the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary levels that are designed for the working adult
- Masters programs in School Leadership-Principal (Type 75 certification), Reading (endorsement), School Counseling (Type 73 certification), Curriculum and Instruction, and Early Childhood Education
- Masters program in Christian Education
- Certification Only programs in School Leadership-Principal and in School Counseling
- Doctoral program in education with emphases in School Leadership (public school emphasis leading to the Superintendent's endorsement or nonpublic school leadership) and Early Childhood Education.
