Employment of Majors

Sociology

The Sociology and Social Work Department offers a collection of courses geared to increase your understand of the world and enhance your career opportunities. These courses emphasize the acquisition of a sociological perspective, the development of critical thinking skills, and the practice of scientific inquiry. Courses are taught by faculty with a range of experiences in educational, research, religious, legal, and social service settings. In addition, because of Concordia's location in the Chicago metropolitan area, these courses often involve field trips to off-campus sites such as prisons, ethnic neighborhoods, museums, and community agencies.

Social Work

If you plan to build a career in social work, it is highly recommended that you complete the Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) degree. More than sixty percent of our social work majors continue their education at the master's degree level after graduation. Some of our students have attended the following social work graduate programs: Washington University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois, Loyola University, Aurora University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and University of Michigan.

Your degree and field experience will also prepare you to work immediately after graduation. Many of our graduates find employment with the agency in which they have completed their field experience, eventually going on to graduate school. Some examples are: Lutherbrook, Hepzibah, Maryville Academy, Social Security Administration, and Lutheran Child and Family Services.
