Employment of Majors

Biology

There are many potential career choices available to persons with backgrounds in Biology. The current need, local and national, for science teachers remains at a high level. This is projected to be even greater over the next number of years. Similarly, many non-teaching opportunities are currently open to individuals with undergraduate backgrounds in the biological sciences; others will likely emerge in the near future as molecular biology becomes increasingly significant to our society.

Chemistry

Chemistry is important within a wide range of career opportunities, including positions in pharmaceutical, environmental, materials development and consumer products development companies, as well as government agencies such as the EPA, FDA, USDA, and forensics laboratories. Chemistry often spans several fields and bridges various disciplines, enabling chemists to discover and develop new medicines, materials, and consumer products more rapidly than ever before. Our graduates are successfully employed as medicinal, pharmaceutical, environmental, analytical, and synthetic organic chemists.

Geography

Whether students have a Geography / Environmental Studies Liberal Arts major or minor, or are concentrating in Geography / Earth Science in the College of Education, students are exposed to regional and systematic courses, plus the techniques course of Map Making and Design. With such a broad based introduction to Geography and Earth Science, students are prepared to teach geography in a variety of formats, or to find employment in either public or private settings.

Have you ever considered a career as an urban planner, a real estate agent, a cartographer, a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialist, a travel agent, a market researcher, a weather forecaster, an environmental manager, a naturalist, or a hydrologist?

Geographers are employed at the federal, state, and local levels of government, as well as in the private sector. A major or minor in Geography/Environmental Studies would provide you with a good general background for pursuing any of these fields and more.

Natural Sciences

Literally hundreds of different career options are available to students who major in the sciences. Significant opportunities exist in many health science-related fields for those interested and qualified.

Concordia offers a broad baccalaureate preparation for the student desiring a terminal program as well as for the student interested in continuing his/her education at the graduate or professional level. The dynamic nature of the sciences and the associated technological and value-laden implications make the study of these disciplines particularly relevant in the new millennium.
