Employment of Majors

Concordia's liberal arts major or minor in English will prepare you for a wide range of employment opportunities. Employers search for graduates with strong written and oral skills. Through Concordia's literature-based English program and its variety of solid liberal arts courses, you will gain the skills needed for a diverse job market. Many of our graduates are currently working as lawyers, journalists, editors, writers, and pastors. The opportunities are abundant with an English major or minor from Concordia University.

If you are considering becoming an English teacher, Concordia offers a challenging curriculum in early childhood, elementary and secondary education. Early childhood and elementary students tailor their degree with a concentration in English. Secondary students have the option of either a major or a minor in English.

Practicum in Teaching Composition, a class you will take at Concordia, gives you actual experience teaching a remedial course for freshman students. Supervised by faculty, you will help these students develop and strengthen writing skills, you will grade their papers, and you will season your own experience in education.

Other classes also encourage interaction between students and faculty. This ensures you receive a quality education with professors who stay on the cutting edge of teaching trends, techniques, and methods.
